How to plumb the depth of a lake
Переглядів 138 тис.6 років тому
Knowing how deep the water is when fishing is vital in catching more fish. Plumbing the depth of water seems to be an easy job, but there are hidden aspects that can effect your float rig and bait presentation. In this film I will explain an accurate method of measuring how deep the water is allowing better bait presentation. Please subscribe to my channel and thank you for watching. My website...

This was the last video, uploaded 2 years ago ...... what happened ??
You should show this video t
this video to the match anglers who don't qbother about any of this but are the people who are telling and our younger anglers there way is how to look after fish and get paid mega bucks and are supplied with all their tackle and Bait for nothing. 🤔
I’ve never heard of the cheesy version before. What fish go for that?
I did a lot of flat float fishing when I lived in Europe it’s a forgotten art now day I fished rivers canals mainy roach bream carp
Ich möchte wirklich gerne einmal in England am Fluss fischen gehen. Wie stelle ich das an? Weis da jemand Rat? Gruß aus Deutschland.
I wonder why the don't build more center pins with a turning link in the food, for better casting.
Lovely.
Good video, nice to watch
Brilliant clear advice. Thanks
An excellent and well explained video as always 😁
Cheers ...great explanations. Bought all of your books! Great!
Good
meh...there are better was to plumb the depth of a lake
I love your videos, you are always so clear about each subject. Thank you for your help.
Fantastic - I never knew a thing about centrepin reels (only ever fly-fished), so this was a splendid introduction
I don't get the bit about bait that will behave more naturally, well if that's the case we should never shot down the line as it adds weight to the bait.... All bait sinks according to its own weight? So any shot down the line, will it be behaving 'naturally'??? Any advice anyone?
My understanding and I know I could be wrong is that he is saying the smaller weight is making the bait fall closer to its natural speed. Bigger weight will drag it down faster and the shallow swim fish will ignore it.
Ah I see, thanks for the advice 👍
Thank you very much for a very informative video :) What is the size of the net you are using in the video?
Brilliant I wish my father had explained all this to me
Excellent video,
Great video 😊.....I personally would have a bit bigger gap near float.....bulk of no 4 (important to be fixed over half the depth.....2 no 6 ....1 no 8 on hook length.....4in over depth 😊.....worked for me
When you have a fish on, do you have drag or is it continuing reeling in??
Brilliant, thank you sir.
This is so so so helpful thank you
Spot on pal, that's exactly how us match anglers do it, but we also use some coloured waters, like dinamite wowsers. Fantastic feeder video for all well done
Nice informative video. Brilliant!
Do you think trout would eat the bread and the cheese paste
I've caught trout on breadflake so I'd hazard a yes on that.
I’ve got to say you are a fantastic angler
Where have you gone your videos are fantastic can you please put more videos up I’ve learned so much from you
Excellent... I really don't fish the waggler successfully and your video really helped me understand what I should be doing.
Great channel thanks
I used to have a 5.1/2" handle-less, extra wide Leeds reel that would spin for ages with one bat. The beauty of Leeds reels is there's plenty of room for your fingers between the rim and the seat. After reading an article by the great angler Dave Thomas I had mine set up with the line coming off the top which I found gave greater trotting control and sticking you fingers in one of the holes soon became second nature when playing a fish. Sadly I let it go when my trotting days ended.
Would you use this same setup for perch fishing?
For Perch and Chub I like to use a mono leader to a snap link swivel. Slower retrieval for Perch. Best of luck.
You are just talking about course fish, Trout are totally different and should be unhooked in the water at all times.
Great video thanks
Absolute banger of a vid
This reminds me of fishing when I was a boy with my Dad. Surveying lakes and understanding the weather really does make all the difference but nowadays people rely to much on tech and neon bait. True fishing skills are almost totally forgotten now
I am from Zambia. When fishing from a boat in a deep spot using a float please explain how to fish
Hello super vidéos!!
I once saw an angler in his thirties, using a spinning rod fitted with a centrepin reel and he was casting a lure for Yellowtail bait. This was up in Noosaville next to the fisheries boat shed. I stood there watching in fascination as he would flick the rod tip and flick the bottom of the reel’s rim with the other hand. He was landing fish after fish and never got an overrun or tangle! 😅 Something I will never forget.
Can such a float be called universal?
I can't believe such AMOUNT of information in a 10 minute video. Let me tell you something, I've spent like HOURS of research to know properly what is what and for what. HOURS. Love every minute of this video.
Hi, what size beads do you use for your boom? Many thanks
How does one liquidise cheese?
For 30 years I put the line on backwards ( off the top) but recently have experimented with the line coming off the bottom. I've not noticed any difference in terms of tangles so, as it's easier winding quickly somehow this way, I've continued with it. Nice video. 🙂
Really well presented and very informative. Thankyou,✌❤ Bob
Hi Richard hope you are well. Will you be making anymore videos in the near future as I've learned alot over the last few years by watching your channel.
I am glad my films have been of use. I do hope to make more films at some point, but for now I am not able to. Thank you for asking and best of luck with your fishing.
I have watched your explanation about float fishing. Would you be so kind to mention the three types of floats you mentioned in the video and so that I can buy them in Holland thank you very much. Have a good Christmas.
The floats are Lignum dome stick, Alloy stem dome stick and Alloy stem shallow water stick by Dave Harrell. Available at daveharrellangling.com
Great video thanks. I've noticed that many anglers have switched to using a bomb that connects using a method feeder type stem, especially on commercials for 'bomb & pellet' fishing instead of traditional ledger. I can see that this enables a quick swap between method & bomb methods, but many bombs (eg; Guru) do not have the line slot that enables a quick switch. In such cases, what is the benefit of an inline stemmed bomb over a traditional ledger for ledger fishing please and how do you decide when to use either the new inline stem bombs or traditional bombs?
It is believed that stemmed bombs when used on a running rig are more likely to self hook Carp than a swivel lead.
Sage and onion stuffing mix, made into a stiff paste 🎣
Wonderful. Thank you. Many years ago I had one of those screw in scythe heads....so wish i could get one now
